On December 19th, 2008, our laboratory, nuclear safety analysis lab (SNUSAL), held an annual gathering for its members and alumni in Daejon City. The lab has been governed by Prof. Un-Chul Lee for more than 25 years. With patience, he has been supervising tens of graduate students who are now mostly working for institutions or companies related to nuclear field in Korea, for example KOPEC, KHNP, KNFC, KAERI, KINS etc. There are also some of them who are serving as professors in the university either in Korea or abroad.
Gathering is kind of Korean culture in order to enhance and tighten the personal relationship among them. In the dinner, drinking soju is becoming a "must", and there is an interesting insight I learnt from them, a respect. Seniors give an empty soju shot glass to juniors or their partners. Giving the glass implies that the person is going to fill it and
wants the receiver to drink it. It is not obligatory to finish the
drink immediately, but it is impolite to place the glass on the table
without at least pretending to drink from it. After finishing the entire glass, it should be returned and
refilled. It is not necessary to return it immediately, but holding it
for a long time is considered rude, as it deprives the giver of his
glass.
Of course, as a moslem, I am forbidden to drink alcohols, and I really appreciate that they understand my position.
After dinner, we went to Norebang (karaoke room) for singing. All the members were excellent in singing, except me , something skill to be learnt from brother ChangHwan. I was singing my favorite song, Lee Seung Gi : Because you are my girl.
In short, joining this gathering makes me more proud to be one of the members of SNUSAL.
VIVA SNUSAL !!
